Australian distributor of Kobelco excavators, Melroad Equipment, is set to host the world launch of the new Acera Geospec SK250 and SK260LC-8 excavators at the Australian Construction Exhibition in Melbourne next month.

The new Kobelco SK250-8 has an added 800kg of oerating weight from the previous model.

These models are the latest in the Kobelco Acera Geospec series and will join the SK200 and SK210LC-8 and SK330 and SK350LC-8 models released late in 2006.

Melroad Equipment said Kobelco wanted the new range of excavators to provide greater digging capacity than any previous models, but it also had to be fuel efficient and economical, while imposing less of a burden on the local and global environments.

"With the Acera Geospec range Kobelco has continued its tradition of designing high performance excavators that deliver increased productivity and lower operating costs resulting in more profit for Kobelco owners," the distributor said.

The new Kobelco SK250-8 has an operating weight of 24.2 tonnes, up 800kg on the previous model, while the SK260LC-8 increases by 1t to 25.2t.

The new models feature Tier-3 compliant engines which provide fuel savings of up to 20% compared to the previous models, according to Melroad Equipment.

The new models also incorporate numerous technological and design changes such as increased arm and bucket digging power, heavy-duty strengthened booms and arms, new Hino engines with increased engine horsepower and upgraded high-efficiency pumps.

The 460-litre fuel tank is 35% larger than previous models and there are two additional modes for specialised applications: A mode for use with other front-end attachments and B mode for use with a breaker.

Other improvements include automatic switching between single and bi-directional flow on the auxiliary circuit and upgrades to the hydraulic system, which provide smoother operation and fine control.

The manufacturer has also increased cabin space, refined layout of controls, including a larger display panel for better visibility, and added a new one-touch-lock for the front top window and a new roof window.

Kobelco has also made several mechanical changes to make maintenance checks easier and safer by moving the batteries, air conditioner unit and remote type engine oil and fuel filters allowing routine inspections to be quickly carried out.

The new range of Kobelco Acera Geospec excavators is available throughout Australia from Melroad Equipment and its distributors.

The machines will be on show at the Australian Construction Exhibition (ACE), held on February 22-24, 2007 at Sandown Racecourse in Melbourne.
